Our dentist, Dr. Sandra L. Parker, encourages you to brush your teeth every morning and night with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste for two minutes each time. As you brush, it’s important to be thorough but gentle. To help you perform an even better brushing job, our dental team has some tooth brushing secrets to share with you.

First, brush your smile from the inside out. Many people have a hard time removing the plaque near the tongue. So, to help you avoid doing so, we encourage you to brush your teeth from the inside out. This means you should brush the insides of the bottom teeth first and then clean the insides of the bottom teeth. Then clean the outsides to complete the cleaning job.

Second, brush with a dry toothbrush. This means you shouldn’t run your toothbrush under water before or after you put the toothpaste on the bristles. However, if you do get your toothbrush wet, it’s not a big deal. Brushing with a dry toothbrush makes the bristles stiffer, but they get wet after a minute or so when it’s in your mouth anyway.

Third, “dance” the brush as you scrub. This means you should add a little bit of wiggle into your brushing when you scrub your teeth. This can help you brush with a gentle and smooth motion. It can also help you better remove the plaque and particles from your smile.
