Braces can be a tricky appliance; however, that doesn’t have to be the case if you maintain a good relationship with your braces. In order to do so, you need to do certain things to keep your brackets, wires, and bands in tip-top shape. That way you can remain on track toward the smile you’ve always wanted.
The first thing Dr. Sandra L. Parker recommends doing is brush and floss regularly. Unfortunately, your braces trap bacteria and food particles, which can be quite inconvenient for you and your teeth. Other than having an embarrassing food-filled smile, the substances can attack your teeth and promote tooth decay and gum disease. So, please brush and floss after each meal and snack.
The second thing your dentist recommends is to avoid eating the appliance-harming foods we have mentioned. For a reminder, those foods are toffee, caramel, gum, popcorn, and other sticky and hard foods. Eating these foods can result in broken and damaged braces, so please avoid eating them altogether.
The third thing your dentist recommends is to chew with your back teeth. If you bite into foods with your front teeth, the pressure can peel the brackets off your teeth and even damage the wire. So, if possible, please cut foods into small pieces and chew them with the back teeth.
If you do these things, there is a good chance you can maintain a good relationship with your braces in Anaheim, California. For more information and details about your braces, please feel free to call Sandra L. Parker DDS Inc at 714-289-0421. Our dental team is excited to help you!
